About the event

This class is an introduction to using a basic home sewing machine through the lens of upcycling. The course will take place over four 3-hour sessions (Wednesday nights) amounting to 12 hours of instruction and work time.

Each student will create one upcycled "Scrap PacK" aka a drawstring back pack made from a patch work of second hand and deadstock fabrics.

During this 4 week course you will learn:

  • Basics of operating a sewing machine

  • How to create a basic paper pattern & how to break it into a patchwork design

  • About fabric constructions (i.e knit vs woven, and the different types of fabrics within these categories)
