About the event
Join us for a special workshop exploring waste re-use through dyeing textiles with used tea leaves from Feature Flora’s tea service. Guests will learn about the importance of re-use and the value in materials that are not typically considered useful after their first primary use. In this example of circular re-use, we will be using the tannins that naturally occur in tea to dye 100% cotton tea towels. Tannins are bitter, astringent plant-derived polyphenols that bind to proteins and minerals, found in foods like tea, coffee, chocolate, wine, and nuts. Tea has been used for centuries to dye textiles, and the rich color that comes from brewing tea to drink still remains after the first 1-2 brews.
We hope you will join us and open your minds to the possibilities for secondary uses of things we encounter and consume in our everyday lives.
